ABOUT CHEF ARM
Growing up in Philadelphia, Armena “Chef Arm” Jehanian developed a fascination for baking while helping her mom and grandma with their favorite family recipes. When she wasn’t in the kitchen, she was at the base of her siblings’ tree fort making cakes in her Easy-Bake Oven for their weekly meetings. Her mom even nicknamed her “Cookie” instilling a love for baked goods at an early age.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from The University of the Arts, she worked at several design studios before becoming a creative director at Mattel where she worked for several years on the iconic Barbie and Hot Wheels brands.
Wanting to mix things up and “start from scratch” she decided to pursue her passion for baking. Chef Arm attended the Pastry Arts program at Los Angeles’ New School of Cooking and quickly developed a local following of people eager to be the first to sample her “homework.” Upon graduating, Chef Arm got her first taste of television when her Lemon Cloud Cupcake received rave reviews from Iron Chef Michael Symon on ABC’s lifestyle show, The Chew.
For Chef Arm, it’s all about the joy her baking brings to others, inspiring kids of all ages, and of course, making things yummy! Chef Arm’s completely hands-on approach and ability to infuse fun into the kitchen soon attracted kids curious about baking. Shortly after starting her From Scratch Bake Sessions, Chef Arm mentored and coached a 13-year-old who was crowned a Chopped Junior Champion with an ice cream sandwich made from scratch that judge Chef George Mendes called, “very courageous.”
Beyond taking the mystery out of making delicious French pastries like chocolate cream puffs or melt-in-your-mouth macarons, kids who enroll in Chef Arm’s From Scratch Bake Sessions learn kitchen safety, build math and science skills, improve their overall concentration, and learn the history behind what they’re making as well.
From Scratch Bakers is located in the friendly neighborhood of Redondo Beach and offers private and group From Scratch Bake Sessions for kids of all ages.
